I just heard about the gunman who broke into a Jewish daycare and gunned
down three 4 & 5 year olds. What in the HELL is the world coming to? My
heart breaks for them and their parents.

My husband's relatives have had businesses and department stores in
several of the towns down in deeeeeep south GA .   They have all seen
a huge increase in crime and break ins in the past couple of years.
One of the department stores which has been in existence for over
50 years and had never been broken in to before, has been broken in 8
times in the past 6 months.   No one is safe anymore...even in south
GA.

My thoughts exactly.  Eric Rudolph could have just as easily
gone south as north.

Yes, the weirdoes are everywhere. I just have such a reaction when it comes
to little kids....and I learned from last night's news, that the guy who
supposedly did this, is on parole from King County, in Washington State. I
felt a little safer when I could believe that most of the weirdoes, where
down in Ca. somewhere, but no, we have our own home-grown ones too. I
haven't heard any updates on the condition of the 5 year old. Has anyone
else heard?

Yes its all so sad there has been a few recent incedents about shootings at
schools. Here in the past two weeks there has been two different rottweiler
draged behind cars, and are in very bad shape. I hope people like that pay
for every thing slowley and painfully.

Yes I had heard that, (we had more of the weirdo types).......I don't
particularly want to believe it, but I've certainly heard it......and I went
to grade school with the (later) I-5 killer, who was known by the name of
"Rockhead Rocky", when we were in the third grade.

I don't think I would say there are more.. there are so many
more people now, the percentage is probably about the same.
And there is so much more media hype, to say nothing of new
and improved ways for law enforcement to cooperate and
discover that apparently isolated and random incidents are
really part of a larger pattern of one individual.

If there are indeed more weirdos, I would attibute much of
that to uninvolved parents and the lack of work ethic/
expectations from younger people, and the fading of the
extended family. I know its trite to say things were
different when one was young, but I and most of the people I
knew when I was growing up simply didn't have time to get
into serious trouble. Not that I'm advocating child labor,
but everyone needs to learn responsibility and a sense of
ethics. No one is born that way. Children will learn, and
what they learn, good or otherwise, is the responsibility of
their parents.

I live about 1/2 hour away from where this happened and used to live near
where the postal worker was killed. It is a lot scarier to have it happen so
close to home than to watch it happening in some far off place, like the
last few occurences. The 5 year old was in critical but stable condition
yesterday and was undergoing more surgeries; I haven't heard an update
today.

I tend to avoid that kind of thing, although I remember an
HBO special sometime '85-89 about bush vets in the PNW and
Alaska. I've known some here in Alaska, some are fairly
'normal' other than not being able to tolerate urban life,
others were abnormal and would have been no matter what -
but the war seemed to intensify many things for them,
including negative aspects of personality. And I have seen
some of the children of some of those bush vets and how they
react to normal life vs what was 'normal' in their families.
And I've seen people who grew up in extremely abusive and/or
dysfunctional homes. The number of weirdos doesn't surprise
me nearly as much as that there aren't lots more than there
are.
