I'm just wondering if anyone knows what motivates the following behavior in
my dog, Booker. He is a 2-year-old Akita-Shepherd-Chow mix. I got them
some plush chew toys (The Vermont Chew Man and the like) with squeakers
embedded inside. My other dog immediately decides to "kill" each one
I bring home by tearing the squeaker out. Once I was able to get the
squeaker away from her before she put a hole in it. When I squeaked it,
Booker began to whimper. I put the squeaker away on top of a shelf, and
every once in awhile over the next few weeks I noticed Booker staring up
at the shelf and whimpering.
I figured he was probably frustrated at not being able to get to it. So
once in awhile I would take another toy, put it next to the squeaker and
pretend to make the toy squeak.
Finally, I found a hard *** toy with a squeaker in it that the other one
can't destroy. Nevertheless, it is soft enough that Booker can make it
squeak when he bites down. Even though he now can chew on the toy, and
often has it in his mouth, I've noticed him carrying the toy around and
whimpering. Does anyone know why he is whimpering? What causes this
behavior?
Thanks,
