can dogs get the flu?

Post by XXXX » Sun, 21 Feb 1999 04:00:00

I was sick last week with a combo of the flu and a standard cold.
I noticed that this week, my puppy has been sneezing a lot.  Today he had
soft stool, would not stop eating grass, and was very fidgety when he was
napping.  He does *not* seem especially lethargic, but is definitely not
100% himself.  Can dogs catch a cold/flu from humans?

I don't know for sure about dogs, but my cat and I had once had the same
strain of bronchitis at the same time.  Don't know who gave it to whom,
but we were both popping the same type of penicillin--just different
doses. The vet said this can happen with certain germs, but again, that
was a cat.  I hope this isn't true of the flu, as I am smitten myself
right now.
