Is dog constipation dangerous?

Post by Steven Barr » Sun, 20 Oct 1996 04:00:00

My dog hasn't pooped in four days and I'm concerned.  Is this dangerous?
Is there a simple treatment?  I hate to think that my dog is uncomfortable.

Thanks for any help you can give.

If you know for sure your dog hasn't had bowel movement in 4 days it is
time for a visit to the vets.  It could be an obstruction which should show
up on xrays.

I don't have an answer, but I wish I had your dog.  Mine has some diahrea
problems and poops on the hour, all night long, and I have to get up and
take his sorry ***outside.  He's still a great man and I'm sure he'll get
over it.  Maybe we could get our dogs together and their puppies would be
pretty easy to handle.

Let me ask this as kindly as I can.  If you hadnt pooped in four days, how
do you think you would feel?  Of course you should be concerned.  Of
course it could be dangerous, like an intestinal obstruction.  There is a
simple solution.  Take the dog to a vet, please, now.  Of course your dog
is uncomfortable.  Please do not try any well-meaning home remedies before
seeking the help of a professional -- a VET.
