Good suggestion.  Frozen baby carrots are a major attraction for some
dogs also.  Or homemade liver treats that you bake and then keep in the
refrigerator?  Recipes abound on the 'net for those.

Hi,

Why are bones "out of the question" for him...I did not see on your list
that he is allergic to them?

A treat my dogs love is to take either chicken gizzards or beef heart
and cut up into bite 1/2 inch chunks and then put the pieces in your
over on foil but don't turn the oven on...it dehydrates the meat and
make a wonderful snack and treat.

...bones are the best teeth cleaners...turkey and chicken necks!

Don't turn the oven on?  Really?  What is it about foil that dehydrates
the meat?  I've never tried that...

I am requesting suggestions for treats for a West Highland Terrier that is
aged 12 months and with severe allergies to the following. ( He has chronic
irritable bowel syndrome)
Wheat,
Corn,
Soya,
Fish,
Eggs,

Hamish is on a diet of organic brown rice, minced chicken, lamb and beef
and his bowel movements are back to normal thank goodness) but NO extras
however he is still being trained and as with most dogs was being rewarded
with a doggy treat. Any ideas please as to what I could make as way of a
treat for him, and also what might help with keeping his teeth clean as
bones of any sort are out of the question. We bought him nylobones but he
doesn't like them and he won't play with a rope either so HELP!!!!  Hope you
can help me with this as it is for my Mothers dog and she is frantically
trying to find something suitable.
Thanks in advance CD

Tracy,

No, it has nothing to do with the foil :)sorry if that is what it
sounded like I meant...the foil is so the pieces do not fall to the
bottom of the over...

The heat from the pilot light is what does the work.  So by not heating
too hot in the oven more of the nutrients are preserved and the treats
are closer to raw but more convenient than carrying around hunks of raw
meat for treats <g>.

...and I don't know why I can not spell OVEN instead of over...sorry, an
over is not some new appliance and is being caused from my lack of
keyboard skills :)

Hi,

I just thought that I also assumed that everyone has a gas oven like I
do...if you have electric you could turn it on to a very low
setting....between 75-100 degrees would be about right.
