Tony--

If a dog has a good foot (tight--the toes NOT splayed) running and
walking on concrete will not do it because the nails will not
touch the concrete unless they are too long.  Shomer (my Dobe)
walks two miles daily on concrete (unless he is running with his
friends in the fenced-in concrete floored handball court across
the street) and his nails still need to be trimmed at least once
every two weeks.  About the only thing the concrete is good for
is letting me know when a nail trim is needed because I will
hear the sound of a toenail touching the ground.

Yet another reason or two not to depend upon concrete to wear
those nails down. Dew claws never touch the ground, unless they
are so long that they are TOO long.
Second, on a young dog  the concrete can
actually break down the pastern. At my house, the first
*click* I hear means time to trim the nails. And I dont
have much concrete around me. But I do not want splayed
feet from neglect in this area!
