65 dogs in Salado

As I'm sure most of you have heard already there are at least 88 large dogs
in Salado Texas that need to be placed either in foster homes or adopted.
From what I understand a woman, who may be crazy, kept taking in more dogs
until her family got involved.  She is out of the state for an undetermined
amount of time and a great group of volunteers are trying their best to
move as many dogs out of there as possible.  The dogs were kept 15-20 in a
pen.  Some of them were standing in 3-4 inches of water.  They've been fed
pig slop which has not only bloated their stomachs but have left them
malnurished.  The dogs are understandably skittish but have shown no signs
of aggression.  I will be making a trip down either today or next Saturday
to get a detailed list of what dogs are there. I understand that 20 have
been placed so we're looking at 65 that still need homes.  From what I got
today there are yellow labs and lab mixes, alaskan malamutes, german
shepards and chows just to name a few.  If anyone is looking for a
particular dog please e-mail me and I will contact you as soon as I see the
dogs myself and have a better idea of what we're dealing with.  Thanks,
Michelle

Michelle,
Just wondering if you've been able to see these dogs yet and if
there's anything I can do to help.  I live in Rowlett, TX (just NE
of Dallas).  I don't know if I could talk my husband into keeping a
foster dog at our house (we've got a Chow mix and an Australian
Shepherd and our backyard isn't very big), but I could try.  Sometimes
the Chow mix can be on the unfriendly side when there's a third dog
around too - depends on the other dog.  I know I'd love an Alaskan
Malamute or Chow if we had more space.  I've got two igloo dog houses
(one medium, one big) that I could loan out if needed.  I'm also free
from school and work this weekend if you needed someone to go down
to Salado with you.  I've got a Nissan Pathfinder which can hold several
dogs in the back if we need to haul some of them up to shelters around
here.
