Lost Labrador for 45 minutes.

Post by Pat » Thu, 07 Aug 2003 07:30:59

Yesterday morning as a friend and I entered the woods.
I saw a friend with his retriever plus a Brown Labrador which he had on a
lead.
He asked us to keep an eye out for the dogs owner.
He had walked the woods for 30 minutes and not a sign of an owner.
After walking for 15 minutes I suddenly remembered about a stupid woman who
owned a Brown Labrador.
Kids would leave the gate into the woods open.
Took it in myself a few times.
As we now have a few Brown Labs in this area I did not fall in.
So we headed for that area...only to hear her calling her dog.
Late for work and cannot find her dog.
Told her where it was...this dog did NOT have a tag.
That is now against the law...and make it real hard to find the owner.
Then came the best bit...the dog was in season.
So we have a roaming dog without a tag and is in season.
With dog owners like that how can we end the need for rescue.
Pat.

It's incredibly frustrating when this sort of thing happens, isn't it? I
don't understand people who let their dogs go about without tags, or run
loose.
I had a frightening incident a few weeks ago when I saw a black lab (is it
always labs?!) running about in the middle of the dual carriageway when I
was driving home. I stopped at the side of the road to try and catch it, and
the man behind me stopped too. We managed to chase it off the road, and it
ran down a path. It appears to have come from a nearby farm, but we couldn't
find anyone around.
That said, I have just remembered something! When I first brought home Jetta
(now at Rainbow Bridge), my rescue GSD, she ran away, leaping over the
closed gate. We had just come home with her new tag and didn't get the
chance to put in on her before she vanished! So, I supposed I shouldn't jump
to conclusions about people! Luckily, Jetta came home of her own accord,
though we searched for ages, and she soon settled in.
