diet for dogs with liver disease

I volunteer at a shelter for abandoned dogs that operates on a very
small budget.   Several of our dogs have been diagnosed as having
liver disease, and we have been advised to urgently change their diet.
Unfortunately, we cannot afford to give all these animals a specific
commercial Veterinary diet (such as Hills KD)   We are hoping to
develop a homemade diet for these dogs that can be helpful for them.
Could someone offer to me a safe, healthful recipe for a homemade diet
for dogs with liver problems?   These dogs are also overweight, and so
the diet must help them to lose weight in a way that is safe for a
liver diseased animal.    Any advice and comments would be
appreciated.

I should add that the liver disease in these dogs is secondary to
Leischmania (which we are treating).   The excess weight is, I guess,
the result of too much love of the wrong kind on our part.

this will help with the overweight dogs
1/4 lb. of cooked lean Hamburger ( drain the fat)
1/2 cup cottage cheese
2 cups carrots
2 cups green beans
Vitamin/mineral Supplement
it is a 300 calorie per pound diet.

Also Gains Cycle Senior, is still out there to help as well as Iams
Senior.
