Hi Guys~

The flu here on the Cape, has been epidemic.

They have people awiting in the halls at hospital.

It seems to be very bad and lasts at least ten days of bed rest, then
about another week of not feeling "right"

I haven't had the flu in a very long time, or a cold.
Knock wood ; )

Aunt P has been back in the hospital, so I have been up there, amongst
all the "sickies"

I took her home yesterday.

Anyway these last few days I haven't felt "quite right"

So I had heard about something that you can take BEFORE you have a full
blown case of the flu and it stops (might stop) the flu.

It is called oscilloccinum.

Probably many of you have heard of it,but I wanted to pass it along.

I went to the health store and this guy that owns it, that I have known
since my "hippie days" in Woods Hole, told me all about how to take it.

The recommended dosage was a full vile, but he said do a half, and see
what happens.

I took half a vile, three times yesterday, and withing the first few
hours of the first dose I was feeling a bit better.

Today, I feel "healthy"

So FWIW,I wanted others here on the board to know of it.

NO,I am not a stockholder in the company : )

Woof!

There's something else you can take before you get the flu that will
prevent you from getting it.  It's a flu shot.  They normally cost
$15.00 and are available in October and November from drug stores or
clinics.  It's not 100% effective because there are so many different
strains, but it has worked for me for the past 6 years.  In one dramatic
instance, I tried to convince my boyfriend to get the shot, but he was
too busy.  Sure enough, he came down with the flu, and I was over at his
house making the chicken soup while he was sick as a dog. (Why do people
get sick as dogs instead of sick as cows or sick as badgers?)  I had nary
as symptom.

Do y'all get the feeling that we often take much better care of our dogs
than we do ourselves?  Cubbe has no insurance, but she gets regular
check-ups, and additional trips to the veterinarian if I notice the least
little sign of illness.  I'm always taking the veterinarian's advice.  I
finally got some health insurance in the past year, but my first reaction
to a symptom is still to see if it will go away by itself.

NO WAY! I would NOT get a flu shot.

Here you only get them at your Doctor's and the office visit is $65,
plus the cost of the flu shot.

I have heard though there are clinics that the doctors do,for lower
income people.

Also, though, they had a shortage of the vaccine and were only giving it
to people that were elderly and had respiratory problems.

I don't do shots for myself or my dogs, unless it is required by law. ; )

I'm glad it worked for you. I have known however many people that got
the flu shot this year, and then got the flu...

I dunno, I take pretty good care of myself.

What about people who are allergic to egg whites?  I am part of that exempt
from flu shots because of an egg white allergy population : (

Actually that is not entirely true. The flu vaccination is less than 40%
effective in prevention of a flu in an *** and even that number is in
question. The suggestion that the patient who gets an influenza-vaccination
will not get the flu is simply false. If your doctor guarantee you that you
will not get the flu after you come in to get a shot, you are being subject
to an unethical manipulation, the basis for which most probably is simply
profit for both those who produce the vaccine and those who administer it.

The lack of efficacy of the vaccine is well illustrated in many peer review
articles. One of the groups of people who are urged each year to get a flu
shot are the elderly. Strange how they ignore the science like one Dutch
study done at a home for elderly people, where in spite of vaccination two
thirds of the population  got a severe flu, with strong morbidity (bacterial
infections, pneumonia) and a related mortality of 10%. And in additional
investigation in a laboratory, the evidence of the vaccination was seen in
the patients tissue, yet the tissue of patients who had the flu virus showed
that the virus had not interacted with the antibodies created by the
inoculation. This clearly shows that the vaccination status did not have any
protective influence.

More and more, doctors are breaking ranks with the CDC (Centers for Disease
Control) who creates the flu 'scare' each year, advising their patients
against the routine use of flu shots given every fall and winter, which are
blatantly promoted on the television and newspapers without a hint of
criticism. But the truth is that the government is making a giant push
encouraging flu shots which are made from outdated viruses which are ground
up into purely random proteins and then injected. Random proteins can and do
randomly cross-react with the body's own tissues. There is little evidence
of the efficacy of the use of the inoculation.  What is also ignored are the
side effects of the flu vaccine which cause a multitude of chronic
auto-immune diseases.

Two quotes:

"No batch of vaccine can be proved safe before it is given to children."
Surgeon General of the United States Leonard Scheele, from an address to an
AMA convention in 1955

"The only safe vaccine is a vaccine that is never used"
Dr. James A. Shannon, National Institutes of Health

I believe someone asked about why people allergic to eggs should not get a
flu vaccination. The reason is that viruses for vaccine production are
incubated in chicken eggs. People who are allergic to eggs should not
receive flu vaccine since some egg protein may be present in the vaccine.

Hi Paulette, I've been using it for three years now, works like a charm.
Also, it takes nausea away when you have a belly ache.  I'm not sure how
it works but I'm glad it does.

I'm scared to go out to the mall or the bookstore!  We want to go out
today, but it seems that a walk in the woods is all we feel safe planning
with that flu epidemic.

It means OFF TOPIC. OT only ever means off topic when used online.

Well in the rec.pets.dogs.xxx portion of Usenet, OT before a subject
pretty much always means "off-topic."  At least, it's commonly used
that way, and I've never seen it used any other way.  When in Rome...
