My wife and I are dog-sitting a 7 month***apoo (sp?) for about a
month or so. He has been to doggie-school and is very well-behaved.
Though I have always grown up around dogs, this is the first of my
own...if only temporary. He is doing VERY well. We are basically
just working on manners while he is here.
Sure, there are things we need work on, but the only thing I'm
really confused about is his desire to go outside. He is
well-housebroken, and hasn't had any accidents, even after switching
homes! But often he will whimper to go outside to pee, even after
going an hour ago, sometimes less. A couple of times I took him out,
only to find out he had cried wolf. He will go a little, but just to
mark a tree or whatever. He can hold it if he needs to (if we're
gone).
I have tried to limit his trips little by little. I scold him if he
whimpers (only vocally). He stops for about 10 seconds, then starts
again. Is he just bored? Does he really have to go more often when
he's running around the house with me? If I do take him out, he's
good when I bring him back in, even if we were only out for 2
minutes. This makes me think he needed to pee, if only a little.
Any thoughts? By the way, this is my first small dog.
