Pee Pee Pads

Post by Sam » Thu, 07 Nov 2002 23:55:12

Can someone tell me about PP Pads?  Is this something new?  I have a 16
year old mini doxie who is very arthritic.  She is on Metacam and for
the most part does just fine.  However, now that the cold weather has
arrived she has a harder time relieving herself outside, esp. pee.  She
gets so cold and she just seizes up - which just doesn't allow her to
get into the right position.  I don't mind if she has accidents indoors
- but I thought that maybe these pp pads might be the answer.  Anybody
with any experience?  Also would they confuse my other two dogs, which
are quite capable of going outside, but they are dachshunds as well and
are always looking for excuses to break the law!

Thanks
Kim

My puppy shredded them, but a stray cat who I brought in who doesn't
understand what a litter pan is has been using them successfully.  Just
have to hope that one day he will choose the one I put in his litter pan
and I can start taking away the ones on either side!  Someone else I
know has a puppy who would stand on them and pee, but miss entirely!  I
think they are worth a shot for your old girl.  They soak up a lot of
pee!

    Hi Kim,
I put them in my old leaky dog's bed as she peed while she slept .
I also put them near the back door  but  she still asked to go out.

I have very little advice  to offer, because those are usually used for
puppies which I think is a rotten idea except if absolutely necessary
BUT, I think its very sweet that you are so concerned about your little
girl.  Why dont' you try it and see if it works?  I have no idea if a
housetrained dog would be able to learn to use a pp pad indoors- you might
try getting her to go on it outside first and then try it inside?
