Royal Canin

I've recently been hearing a lot about a food that has been a
big seller in Europe, was re-formulated for distribution in
the US, called Royal Canin.

If you are eligible for their breeder program (more than 3
dogs), you can purchase 40# bags for $19.95.

I have a close friend who started using it in her kennel
a month or so ago; so far, no negative effects to energy,
health, or coat (none that are visible, anyway.)

The ingredients and protein/fat/fiber proportions *look* good.

Has anyone else out there had any experience with RC?
I would really appreciate EMail or a post!

I fed this to my Great Pyrenees male from the time he was 3 months until
17 months.

This is new.  This was not in place when I fed it.

I liked their proportions, but the problem we had was twofold.
Sieg's stools were loose and messy and very smelly and would easily turn
into diarrhea with the smallest variation of treats, and he had really
bad gas.   Now, we were feeding their AGR formula which is very high in
protein.  Now I feed Bil-Jac nonfrozen, and his stools are better, no
gas, and I think his coat and skin are better.    Since we both have
double-coated cold weather breeds, I thought you'd like to know this.
Our final problem was getting the food since there were no distributors
near us.  According to new ads, thy are only distributing in seven states.

Oh, well.   My $.02 worth......

I used Royal Canin when it first came into this country. At
that time, it was being imported. I really liked the food.
Our German Shepherd started on Royal Canin as a puppy. He did
very well on the food- gained weight, shiny coat and good skin,
firm stools.

I stopped using Royal Canin because the price went quickly to
almost $10 more than Science Diet for a 40# bag and the supply
to my store was sporadic.

I am glad you posted this request. I am considering switching
one of my dogs off his current food and I had forgotten about
Royal Canin. I may try it again.
