I'm looking for advice on what/how to feed an overweight dog.
I adopted 2 large dogs this past summer - a 9-year-old collie and her
8-year-old daughter via a black lab (who's basically a lab with a long
nose).  They were in a situation where they were largely neglected -
tied up all day long during the summer with inadequate shelter and
water.  Consequently, they were both overweight, the lab in particular
needing to lose about 25 pounds.  I fed them Fit & Trim for the first
4 months, then switched to regular food (it's a little cheaper).  I'm
giving the lab about 4 cups a day (which is the recommended amount for
an 80-pound dog).  I swore she looked thinner - but the last trip
to the vet revealed that she's actually gained 2 pounds - up to 107 lbs.
Argh!

She does get some exercise, but I can increase that at least some.
Otherwise, does anyone have experience in what to feed her to help
lose some weight?  I will cut back on the food some more and switch
back to Fit & Trim, but if there are other dog foods that others have
tried with better success, I'd love to hear about them.  The collie, btw, has lost 10 pounds, from 85 to 75, so at least it's working for her.

Thanks for any help.

I would switch to a good quality lo cal/senior food, feed half the
amount stated and substitute vegetables.

That's what I did with Ishka for several years to keep her weight down,
she was disabled so it was difficult to exercise her a lot, although she
got along great in her K9 cart.
