I may be wide of the mark here but it would be interesting to know if those
that participated in this thread identified biting as the sole problem with
their dogs.  My experience is that this is often the behaviour that makes
the "headlines" because the sharp bits get our attention---but there are
lots of other irritating habits there as well.  Handling the biting topic
often gets lots of responses but sometimes the treatment has to focus on the
more general topic of constructive training.  Any interaction with a young
puppy should be well thought out --in fact there should be no purposeless
playing with the pup --only constructive training that is appropriate for
the age of the pup should be happening. Perhaps its semantics again but I
recall a quote "Through play we learn" --pity whoever thought up this
"smart" comment hadn't taken more time to define what "play" actually meant
rather than having a whole heap of folks coming up with shaky definitions
and getting ourselves into difficulties.
