HELP ME AND MY DOG PLEASE PLEASE HELP PLEASE

Post by <good.. » Fri, 07 Jun 1996 04:00:00

I have a pet problem, that I'm hoping somebody will be able to give
me some advice about. I don't know if this is the right place to be
seeking advice but no one else knows what to do so I will try..

My problem concerns my pet dog, Boofer.  Boofer is a Black Curly
Retriever
He was given to me by my Aunty as a present 6 months ago. Boofer is a
very ugly animal and is sometimes very stupid. On Thursday of last week,
When I came back from a week long ski trip, I found Boofer had gotten
out of his cage and had been playing over the road in the railroad
workshops. His upper body and head was covered in greasy oil. I had to
wash him before I could put him backin his cage. I tried Shampoo and
Dish washing Detergent, but these did not seem to be doing much. I
borrowed a large bottle of Terpintine from my neighbour who helped me
give boofer a thorough scrubdown. it took a lot of the oil out but
unfortunately the terps reacted with Boofer's skin and eyes. For the
past week Boofer has been scratching continuosly. He has scratched so on
his neck that most of his hair has been scraped off. His eyelids have
swelled so much that he can't open them and he is not eating the food
scraps that I'm giving him. looking at Boofer I can see that he is
crying out of his eyes, sometimes seeing that he is in extreme pain
makes me almost feel sorry for him, even though he is is a dog. Boofer's
constant whining and weeping is keeping me awake at nights and I am
starting to think that getting boofer wasn't such a cool present after
all. I've had nightmares of Boofer breaking into the house and rubbing
his hairless neck onto the table, and leaving oil and *** stains on
it. Just the thought of him coming into the house is bad enough, let
alone the way he looks at the moment. The reason I am writing is that I
am hoping somebody can answer these questions:-

1> How many weeks can a dog survive without eating?

Quote:
>I think that if boofer could see the food on the ground, then maybe he >would eat it. I've tried to open his eyes but they are cove=

red in a slimy >liquid film, and I don't want to touch them.

2> how can I open his eyes?

3> How can I stop Boofer from whining all night?, it is driving me crazy.

4> When Boofer is allright to touch again, how can I get the rest of the
   oil of his hair

I realise that a lot of you will be thinking that I am foolish for ever
letting Boofer out of his cage, but he pushed his own way out and I
wasn't in town when he did it. boofer is really starting to mess up my back yard and I want to put him back in his cage as soon as p=
ossible.

So please, if you can answer my questions, or you have any opinions that you would care to share with me then please send me a let=
ter, if not for the animals sake then to cheer me up.

I have one more question.
5> I am thinking of buying a cat, does anyone know of a good breed that
won't fight with boofer when I leave them home together?

THANKYOU FOR READING THIS AND I WILL BE VERY HAPPY IF YOU CAN ALL HELP ME CLEAN THIS THING UP(excuse the pun)

                                                                                                                               Yours Sincerely  Mathew Goodwin

My first instinct as a pet owner and teacher of animal health is to take
the dog to the vet as soon as possible.  Terpentine can ultimately blind a
person let alone a dog.  Have you washed him with a mild dog soap after
your application of terpentine.  You say that your worst nightmare is for
him to get in and rub *** and oil on your table or you.  How about
catching a clue, from your description your dog appears to be in a great
deal of pain and you are worried about how long he can go without food.
Then you have the guts to have a concentious pet owned recommend a  breed
for another pet.  Obviously you do not know how to take care of the first
one.  Anybody with an ounce of compassion for humans let alone animals
would have taken your dog to the vet when the problems first occured or
called a vet or pet store about methods of removing oil.  You must be a
literate person to be on the internet, have you ever thought of reading
the precausions on a product before use.

Good Luck with your pet.

A whole bunch of stuff designed to get people upset.

Dear Mark
I'm sorry you have had such a difficult life.  It must be frustrating
not being able to be nice and pleasant to people.  I hope that some
people here will come up with some upset and angry responses.  Then you
can laugh and laugh and feel good about yourself.  It is easy, isn't it,
to get people to respond.  See, even I have responded.  But I couldn't
disappoint you.  On the other hand maybe this group will get lucky and
I'll get the last word on this thread.

Cheers,

I WISH TO APOLIGIZE TO ANYBODTY THAT I HAVE UPSET.

THE LETTERS ON THE REC.PETS COLUMNS ABOUT BOOFER AND CRYSTAL WERE NOT
TRUE AND WERE ONLY SUPPOSED TO BE A JOKE.

I REALISE THAT I HAVE UPSET PEOPLE, AND I AGAIN APOLIGIZE, I DID NOT
EXPECT PEOPLE TO TAKE IT SERIOUSLY.

THE CHARACTERS MENTIONED IN THESE STORIES WERE FICTITIOUS.

You have just become the victim of what's known on Usenet as a "troll."
The term comes from fishermen trolling hooked bait behind them in
a boat, hoping to catch fish.  I've been on Usenet for many years now,
and this has become something of a perverse art form.  (It can be
done with good humor and taste, but in this case, it clearly was not.)

Some people get their jollies out of showing up on a newsgroup and
trying to stir up trouble.

The original poster was obviously making up an extremely disturbing
story in an attempt to generate a lot of angry responses.  A
psychologist could probably explain this behavior better than I,
but I chalk it up to a desperate need for attention, a complete
lack of a life outside of the Net, and difficult toilet training. :-)

The appropriate response to this kind of thing is generally

-- a mixture of pity and contempt, with respect to the original
   poster;

-- a message to the other readers of the newsgroup identifying
the suspected troll for what it is; and

-- silence. :-)

Have you checked out the new site "Mad Dogs and Englishmen"? It's got gifts
for dog owners and dog lovers -- not for doggies themselves.  Plus
contests, info on dog breeds and lots more.  It's been awarded a "Gift Site
of the Day" and it's really cool.  Just head for

How about taking the dog to the vet?
Sounds like you shouldn't get any more animals until you learn how to
take care of them.

As incredible as it may seem, there are SOME people out there that are
that stupid and cruel, this however is someone's idea of a good joke, but
I don't get it.

***
You don't have the brains to take care of an animal.  If you are 12 or
younger, just show this message to your parents.  You could problably be
arrested for your treatment of this "pet".
At least have the responsibility to take the dog to a vet and give him up
for adoption before you kill him.

PS:  DON'T BUY A CAT!
