Quest for the Rose TV series

Post by Jeremy D. Buckl » Fri, 07 Jul 1995 04:00:00

Does anyone know the current status of Roger Phillips' efforts to bring
this BBC series to the U.S.?  According to the 1995 HOGR catalog, it has
already aired in the U.K. and the rest of Europe, but the only offer he
has had from this country was to condense the six-hour series down to a
single one-hour program. Having enjoyed the Phillips and Rix book with the
same title, I for one would love to see this series in its entirety.

Anybody from the other side of the Atlantic care to offer a review?

P.S. Sorry about my recent "unwrapped" postings.  Somehow I managed to
mess up my newsreader's configuration so that it wasn't wrapping text any
more :(
I think it's really fixed now.

The series is broadcasted in Ontario through TVOntario  (6 hours).
Next broadcast starts Aug 17, 7:30PM. TVO is available through the
cable here in Montreal. Guess this series is a good reason for me
to get access to this channell :-). I do not know if they reach the
US, but have an 1-800-INFO TVO number  (18006631800 or (416)
445-5333 if you want more info and want to order the companion book.

They have those other series in gardening : Victorian flower
garden, The Ornemental kitchen garden, Geoff Hamilton's Cottage Garden.
Mostly from BBC, and they sell the companion books too. Just found about
them, i am in no way connected to them!

Anybody from Ontario care for a review? I would be glad to hear from Europe

Don't know when it's on in the USA but the book is bigger than
the TV series - much more expansive.
I got the last three programs on video (3 to 6) but not the first
two. Does anyone know if a video is available?

Hi,
A friend taped the series for me in England and we watched it here and
enjoyed it,( although I must admit I had looked forward to it so much , it
never could have lived up to my expectations.) The trick is I have a TV
and VCR that plays both UK and US programs (my British husband misses his
rugby from time to time.)
I wanted to get some of the other BBC series, but didn't have any luck.
Perhaps the new Gardening channel on cable will one day carry all these
great programs.
