rose midge

I have an extreme rose midge problem.  Last year, Orthenex did not
cure it, and I had very few blooms past July.  This year, one member
of the local rose society told me to try Diazonon Plus.  It seemed to
work okay for a while, but in following the directions of spraying
every 7 to 10 days, some of the damn midges seemed to lay their eggs
in my new growth, anyway.  Is it safe to spray every two to three
days?  Is there anything which works any better?  If you've never seen
what midges can do you're lucky.  They lay their eggs in the new
growth and as the maggots hatch they eat away from the inside out.
The result are blackish deformed leaves and buds which cannot grow
because they've been hollowed out.  If anyone out there has solved the
midge problem.  Please tell me your trick.  I'm desperate to save my
roses!

Thanks.  Sharon
