pH/ppm of Jerry's Grow

Post by Charles H Vandyk » Wed, 23 Feb 2000 04:00:00

It's sunny and warm enough for me to try Jerry's grow here in
Pittsburgh.  I made up a gallon of the grow formula, and was surprized
at the ppm reading on my calibrated Hanna pH/ec/ppm meter.

Here is what I found.

Initial readings for the gallon of RO water pH (5.2), ec 0 mS, ppm 0

Readings after adding 3 tsp (15 mL) of Jerry's Grow pH (4.9), ec 1.98
mS, ppm 1429

I can easily adjust the pH, but the 1429 ppm value was very large to me.
I often use Dynagrow at half strength which for me gives a low pH, but
the ppm reading is usually around 200 ppm.  I have a large phrag
collection and often water with the dilute solution every day.

Anyone have any experiences with confirming these values? Are they OK,
and should I be concerned with the large lumps of whatever that are in
the bottle. Shaking and warming did not cause them to dissolve.  These
are big chunks.  OK to ignore?

Thanks

Hello Charles,  My initial reading is Ph 8.2, 0 TDS.  With 1 tbs., Ph 6, TDS
470.  However, Jerry recommends 1 tsp. per gallon for phrags.  With 1 tsp.,
Ph 6.2 (perfect for phrags!) 240 TDS, also pretty darned good.  Hope this
helps.  Roger

P.S. On my instruction sheet, Jerry mentions the precipiatates, and that
they're o.k. R.
