Need help - Boxwood versus Hicks Yew

Post by cyberc » Tue, 14 May 2002 23:55:25

Hi,

I need to plant a hedge to have privacy in our backyard. I live in
North of Toronto (Richmond Hill - zone 5b)

I am not sure what to choose? Will Hicks Yew do any good or should I
choose Boxwood?

Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Living in your zone, you don't want boxwood: it's not that hardy, and
besides, it grows so slowly.  Hicks yew a much better idea - tough as
nails, grows faster than boxwood and nice and dense.  You may have to
shell out big bucks for sizeable plants to get a screen soon, unless
you're the patient and frugal type like me who's willing to buy small
and let my investment multiply!  Good luck!
