Young grape vines - small grapes?

Post by David Cronsh » Tue, 11 Jul 1995 04:00:00

I have a dozen 2-4 year old grape vines (zone 21) that are
loaded with bunches of grapes but most of the grapes are
small (1/4" -3/8"). Is this because the vines are young?
Should I have thineed the grapes earlier in the year
(how>?).

p.s. the grapes are ripe and have good flavor. They are
mostly red-ruby variety.

You didn't say what variety?   Delaware tends to run small like that,
but probably would not be ripe yet.  Others?

Did you prune?   If you've never visited grape country during pruning
time, you'd think that an adequate pruning would kill the vines.
