Help the Canadian Gardener TV Show Get On-Line

Post by Steve Saunders & Beverley Richardso » Wed, 30 Aug 1995 04:00:00

Are there any Canadian Gardener TV Show fans out there?

The CBC (Canadian Broadcast Corporation) has a neat new web site...

http://www.cbc.ca/

They have homepages for some of their programs.  They have listed the
show "Canadian Gardener" but they don't have a homepage for it.

.. he said he would tell the Canadian Gardener crew that their fans
would like to see them on line.

Now I think they might be more convinced if more fans wrote them. So how
about it?  If you're a Canadian Gardener fan and would like to see them

can get the Canadian Gardener on-line!

After reading your posting I immediately E-mailed them. I hope other fans of
Canadian Gardener do the same. I'm responding to your post because I just had
to ask "Don't you miss Bob?" Besides good Canadian gardening info they gave me
such a laugh that the rest of the day just had to be good. Maybe sometime
he'll make a guest appearance.

Steve,

Tho I'm not a Canadian, having lived my whole life in the
"shadow" of Windsor, Ont, I grew up w/CBC.  I stumbled upon
The Canadian Gardener many years ago (gee, could it have
been 10 or so???) and just love it.  Although there are
many gardening programs in the States on Public TV and on
the new cable channel, I still think CG is #1.  One of the
things I've enjoyed is that sometimes the gardens aren't
perfect and sometimes they make mistakes - and we see it!
Just like real gardens and gardeners.

Lyn, I too miss Bob.  I loved the playful, friendly
bantering and learned a lot from their discussions.  I
think that somewhere I even have a tape of their last show
just for posterity.

A while ago I wandered over to the CBC website actually
looking for my two favorite CBC programs (the second being
Disc Drive).  I was disappointed that neither had a web
page.  Thanks Steve for the info and later today I'll email
them and add another name to the list of those of us who'd
like to see them on the web.

He retired or, more likely, they retired him.  On the last show of the
season, was it two years ago?, they said goodbye to Bob by doing the show
from his own home garden.  Clearly they decided to take the show in a
different direction.  (And didn't you get the feeling David was getting a
little frustrated with him anyway?)  While I enjoy much of the new
format, watching Bob and David lock horns certainly gave the show a
"homey" touch you don't often see on network TV.  (And what do you think
Bob would have to say about David's new "do"?)

I didn't see the original post; what's this about Canadian Gardener
getting on-line?

Please second Cyndi's assessment of the Canadian Gardener as the premier
Garden program.  My area doesn't have cable TV so satellite dishes
provide a wonderful array of garden programs: Victory Garden, New
Garden, Your Organic Garden, Gardener's Diary.  The only garden show
that compares to the Canadian Gardener is the Gardener's Journal which
ironically is another Canadian garden show, this time from the Royal
Botanic Garden Aboretum.

Now if only I could find the tape I made of their visit to the Perennial
border at UBC this spring.  Sigh!
