Brown needles on yew trees.

Post by Don » Mon, 19 Jun 2000 04:00:00

My pyramid yew trees (bushes?) are 3' high.  They are growing fine and
I am t*** them to keep their shape as suggested in this NG last
year.

However they seem to have a fair number of brown "needles" which are
dropping off.  Especially inside the tree.  Is this normal,  should I
fertilize and how?

If you have not fertilized as yet, an it is spring where you are and not
fall, you should fertilize with a fertilizer for acid loving plants or
for evergreens. I have even used Muraic acid on the plant I have at work
before I put an underplanting in.

Yews do NOT appreciate acidic soils or fertilizer.
