Growing new cuttings of garden mums

Post by Tyra Trevell » Thu, 13 Jun 2002 01:34:54

I received a Garden mum as a gift last year. It bloomed nicely and I planted it
out in the autumn; it overwintered well.  I cut the spring growth back recently
and rooted the cuttings in pots.....and every single one is now a small plant,
sitting in a row along the northeast side of the house.  (I never grew mums
before and never knew how easily they rooted!) I was thinking I'd like to grow
these on as gifts (the cycle continues) and am wondering if the new wee plants
will be blooming specimens by autumn.  I understand that growth speeds up
considerably in July/August, and that they'll need pinching periodically until
the end of July, at least. Thanks for any info.
Best,

If you give 'em TLC you will have mirror images in the fall....the only way
to go.
