Vet trip this week..:(

Post by Kate » Wed, 22 Mar 2006 09:57:23

Hi one and all.  Having successfully managed to delete all my newsgroup
settings I have had to traipse back to google till I get my probs
sorted...LOL

Questions for you Joanne..:))  I am taking Houdi to the Vets to get his
bumble foot treated.  Can you tell me the medication and dosage for
this.  My Vet will not have a clue how to treat this and her answer of
baytril or doxy just won't cut the mustard this time !!!

Also ....  I have discovered that Harry (handsome pants) has got
something wrong in the pants department.  He has this area that looks
like its been skinned.. it is wet as well.  It has now spread to one of
his gonads so I am taking him to the Vets as well.  Any ideas what this
could be?  I have never seen anything like this before.  I haven't put
anything on it except some cornflour in the hope I could dry it up but
Rats being Rats he just***ed it off so its no use trying ointment.
Ideas???

Hi Kate!!!
We've had great success with NovoTrimel also known as Septra, Bactrim,
Sulfatrim, SMZ/TMP, co-trimoxazole... it's got many different names and
I'm sure your vet will recognize one of these.
For dosage this is what is says on the RMCA drug chart: 15mg/lb BID, PO
.15cc/lb
Here's the drug chart, you could print it out and bring it to your vet.

Also, with the medication, you need to keep their home super clean and
also pad down any hard floors. It's like a bed sore so the more there's
pressure on it from a hard floor then worse it gets.
And your other one, the only thing I can think of is an abscess. It's
very strange. Hopefully your vet will know.
Keep us updated!!!

I have no idea what Harry has but its not an abcess.  Its as if he has
had all his hair removed and the skin is wet looking... very odd
indeed. I will let you all know how I get on.  I have printed off the
Medication List and will take it with me.  Fingers Crossed..:)

Regards Kate

It sounds a bit like a pressure sore that's gotten sore.  Good luck at the
Vets.

Gentle scritches to Harry.
