Fear Factor Sued After Rat-eating Episodes

Post by pagh » Sat, 08 Jan 2005 02:02:24

Among the many gross-out food episodes of Fear Factor have been a
rat-eating & BLENDED rat-drinking stunt. A lawsuit has been filed in the
Federal Court in Cleveland against Fear Factor by paralegal Austin Aitken.
The suit is for 2.5 million dollars.

The basis of the suit is not the cruelty embodied by & inherent to a show
that encourages eating insects alive & which kills rats & other animals
for no better purpose than entertainment -- the same type of entertainment
a psychotic might get from lighting dogs on fire & tossing cats off
bridges, but apparently that's how sicko America is or the show would not
have ratings.

The psychosis & cruelty embodied by the show is not a concern of a suit.
Rather, Mr. Aitken claims a rat-eating show so grossed him out that he
became dizzied & while fleeing from his television screen, ran into a
doorjam & bumped his head. Hard to say which is more ignorant, the show,
or the suit.

OMG.  I'm glad I missed that.  I don't watch the show anyway but if I had
seen that... oh.  It's too bad the suit seems so frivolous, because a
letter-writing campaign just doesn't seem to cut it when a show takes
cruelty to this level.  This kind of thing sets back the public perception
of rats by leaps and bounds.  <shakes head>

I have to agree with you guys. I just can't decide
which is more pathetic, the law suit or the show.

The show.  What some people will do or watch for entertainment.

To be fair though Julia if they'd just stop with the
"Eat this disgusting thing" part it might be entertaining.
Not many people are afraid of eating stuff they just get
grossed out. That's my biggest problem...high stunts? No
problem...hight isn't scary it's the potential sudden stop
at the end that scares most. Oh and what about Fire?
I mean come on there's a billion things out there that
are down right scary to see or do...parenthood for one. I'm
raising two of those hairless apes and let me tell you it
can be compleately terrifying at times. Then I recall that I
did some of the same things and didn't get killed...

Keith.... did your mum ever say to you..... 'I hope you have kids just like
you someday!' ?

I think I'm just tired of the whole reality show bit.  And showing what kind
of stomach people have just isn't my cuppa tea.  OMG... I'm becoming an old
poop just like my mother!!!!

Yes, yes she did. Frankly my son doesn't do half the
dangerous stunts I did. Heck he hasn't even High sided a
bicycle at 30mph yet! I did that on a regular basis...jumped
out of a lot of trees to.

There, there you'll be okay dear. It's just a daymare...

I refuse to run screaming because I already have a plan to
turn into my great grandfather and sit on the back porch
chasing squirrels out of the pecan tree with a BB gun the
secret is that you don't try to actually hit them and they
don't try to hide to hard. It's all about sitting around
trying to all but hit and they try not to act like aren't
hiding. Same with kids and dogs in the yard...it's all a
game. But no one will admit it. ;^) I PLAN on acting like
mean old crotchety SOB when I grow up. In about 60 or 80
years I'd say.

Yes, but you gotta ask why the idiot was watching it in the first place.

Have you seen the other dreck on the air? I mean it's
starting to make the early 80's and late 70's look good! I
see some of the shows and start thinking "Wow, Hill Street
Blues or The A Team could have solved that better". We tend
to watch educational/semi-educational shows. Hey "Monster
Garage" is educational...how to build something out of
nothing and get along with other people. ;^)

Weird really. I mean people eat cows on tv. and don't get sued.
They eat rats all the time in Southeast Asia. Isn't this just a cultural
thing? I mean we can't go after eating one animal..whilst we eat
another...rather hypocritical.
