Squash OK for bunnies?

Post by jere » Sun, 02 Mar 2003 04:44:55

Is Squash OK for rabbits? I bought some for myself, but I don't want
to try offering it to little four-legs unless I'm sure it's OK
for him.

A bite won't hurt. But other treats are better.
My Clown Pleco (Sucker catfish) has eaten it for
25 years.
Rabbits get leafy greens!

Squash? How do you prep it for the pleco?

Well, Daffy and Eric prefer tennis because that hard little *** ball is
just far too bouncy.

Par-boil it.. to soften it up a bit. They usually ignore if it you put it in
fresh.. or if you forget to take it out within a day, it starts getting
mushy and *then* they will eat it but by then it will start gunking up the
tank if you're not careful. Other fish like it as well.

Dave

I use green squash.  Rinse it.  Cut off a 2"
piece.  Poke a flat hole through the meat with a
narrow knife.  link two plastic garbage bag ties
together and insert through the hole.  Attach the
ties and squash around a rock.  Drop in tank.
This lasts me 2 days.

Green Squash is loved by all suckers.  It's the
secret to getting algae eaters to live for more
than 4 months.  Mine are all over 3 years old and
I was told they won't live that long.  All non
meet eaters need a continuos supply of food.  I
think human vegetarians must also eat more often.

I have a heavily planted 200 gallon tank, 400 lb.
of red river rock, 125 lb. of petrified wood.  A
dozen coradora, 40 tetra, 4 algae eaters, one
Giant algae eater (2 1/2"), My clown pleco (5"),
and 8 discus.

I have never boiled mine.  All my suckers eat it.
Doesn't cloud the tank.  Done this for 25 years.
Was given this tip when I first got my pleco.
(same one) :) My other fish receive frozen ***
worms, and once in a while live ones. 2 of my
discus are breeding but the pleco also gets the
eggs. :(

In my late ***s I lived with a couple from
England.  You have that same sense of humor.

Green squash? Do you mean acorn squash?

I'm envious of your tank! We have a 15 gal downstairs that needs a bit
of attention, it only has a few neons, 4 corys and one small pleco.
Nick has a 10 gal in his room with two goldfish.

When I was in my ***s I had several tanks and kept butterfly and
archer fish, rift lake cichlids, and my pride and joy was a 7" oscar
that I raised from 1" long.

I had a pleco for at least 4 years, too. He was about 3" when I got him
and when I moved and sold off the tanks and fish he was 6".

Zucchini!  Cheep & easy.

My first pleco grew to over afoot long.  Ate all
the plants.  I now pick my fish to work with the
plants.  The clown is a black & orange stripe
dwarf.  Wouldn't show her self for the first 10
years. LOL  Rabbits are easy.

My goodness... There's actually a *use* for zucchini?!?!?!?!?!

I'm in a major battle with the snails right now... My Amazon Sword is
getting eaten pretty badly.

Mind you, Toby would finish it in about 45 seconds.

(chop it and add it to sauce, batter it and fry it; you don't know of
uses for zucchini?)

I want to see aquarium pics!  We just have the 20-gal with 7 tiger
barbs and the cleaner fish Bosco, who sucks big-time and eats Algae
Wafers when he's not grazing on the zucchini. :-)

Zucchini is not food. It's filler.

It's tasteless pap.

I hate it.

Every now and then I get to go to a very nice, very expensive
restaurant. Not a chain or anything, and I travel a bit so it could be
annywhere in North America.

Fancy place, nice menu, good wine list.

Entre includes "vegetable medley".

"Vegetable Medley" means "***you wouldn't cook at home, and mostly
zucchini".

Did I mention I hate zucchini?

I grow a large garden every summer. I grow in alphabetical order. I
don't go past "Y".

I don't have anything to show off, except Goldie and Speedy who we
adopted last June when Nick's friends moved to England. The fish
suddenly started growing when we moved them from a bowl to a 10 gal
tank, and Goldie is now my snail control mechanism for the community
tank... meaning that I pick the snails out of the community tank, dump
them into the goldfish tank, and Goldie "controls" them.
