Koi and Goldfish Food

Hello John, I hope I can help with the food problem.  First of all, when
we first got into this fabulous hobby 14 years ago, we fed our fish
trout chow.  My goodness, when I think back on this I cringe.  Trout
Chow is one of the worst things to feed your fish.  They cannot digest
it properly and it doesn't take long to make a sludgy mess around
everything, especially your filter.  Peas and corn are hard enough for
humans to digest and it is not suppose to be good for our fish either.
Spinach, lettuce, shredded carrots, strawberries and watermellon, to
name are few are some of the things we feed our Koi as a treat.  I don't
understand why your fish are not eating when you hold back on their
favourite foods.  When they get hungry enough, they will eat nearly
everything.  Sometimes if water quality is not quite right, this will
cause them not to eat because they don't feel well.  Do you have a
filtering system?  If you do, what kind, inside the pond or outside?
Using the onion to keep diseases down is new to us.  If it works, don't
stop.  Filtration and quarantining your fish will do the same thing but
if you find this works better, keep using it.  I hope I have helped
some.  Good Luck!  Yours Koily, Lorraine
