Water lettuce not doing too good in the pond.

Post by Phillip Daube » Sun, 06 Oct 1996 04:00:00

My water lettuce isn't doing too well in the pond.  Besides the normal
muncing on the roots by the fish, I've noticed that there are large
chuncks out of any leaves exposed to the water.  Eventually, these
leaves turn yellow and die.  I do have snails in the pond (not by
choice), but I've never seen one on the lettuce.

Thanks,

Keep a supply of lettuce in a separate pond or container, away from the
fish. move the lettuce to the pond after it is mature. this give it a
better chance with the fish.

RE: Not sure butI think this is perfectly normal! At least mine do the
same thing as they grow. the new folage shades the lower until they
die off just like you describe! All the while the plant keeps getting
bigger and sending off runners which start new babies!
