Slime things under lily leaves ???

Post by fishhea » Mon, 26 May 1997 04:00:00

Hi guys.  I just repotted the 3 water lilies I got in my great Barrel DEAL.
One of them had some kind of clear slimy things under it's leaves. They
were rice shaped but larger then rice.  I saw nothing in them like an
embryo of anything.  What are these things?  They were tough to remove as I
squished them with my fingers to get rid of them.  Has anyone seen anything
like this on their lilypads?   Thanks in advance!    Carol

I saw a pod of some sort of eggs in one of my plants.  I thought Dragonfly,
but I wouldn't know.

They sound like snail eggs to me.  I have them under my lily leaves also.
When they are totally clear, the babies have left and are happily eating
things in your pond.

        Hi,
Yes. Could be dragonfly eggs. Iwatched a dragonfly landing on
waterlilly leaves. She would sit
on the edge and reach far back under the leaf with her tail ( ovipositor
?). When I turned
the leaves over later there was a circle of slimy stuff which I assumed
was an egg mass.

Well I squished them all as you know!  But they were clear so either the
critters hatched already or the embryos didn't start to grow yet.  The lily
is in a barrel and I will tell you all what i find crawling around in there
if anything!   Carol     :o)

Dear Richard,.. I think so too.  Sever days after that post I found a few
small snails in the barrels.    Carol
