pond update/pump update

with the help of Lorraine from this group I am succesfully getting rid
of a weird sludge problem that started in our pond a few weeks ago. Then
4 days ago our pump stopped working! ARRRRGGGGG! We found this neat old
motor repair place that also sold pumps! so the next morning we drove
there and left our old one to be repaired (a Little Giant 10 cia) and
bought another one so at least now we will have a backup pump the next
time this happens. The newer version is slightly more energy
efficient(which Little Giants generally are not) and pumps 600 gallons
per hour more water at 4800 gph(10ecim). Our first pump lasted 2.5
seasons we keep it on 24 hours a day in season so I am not disappointed.
The repair is costing about $90.00. Little Giant was very helpful on the
phone with us when we called them panicing! They were very willing to
send us one if we couldn't find one locally asap. But this place we
found was much less expensive. Everything survived the day or so without
the pump and I am very relieved that this is over. I was thinking about
getting a sequence pump that goes outside the pond...I still think that
oneday I would like one but this happened so fast that we didn't have
time to wait for a mailorder pump and to build a housing.... Noone here
sells sequence that large. It would have been more expensive to go that
route too although the electric use would have been 1/2 quite possibly!
Not sure which is better. I am not too keen on the construction of a
pump house for an out of the pond pump either. Just thought I would post
my ramblings...
