Just out of curiosity, I was wondering what the newsgroup members had
found to be the best foods for koi and goldfish - for overall health and
colour enhancement.

===================
I feed my koi and GF a mix using mostly Sho-Gold
(www.goldfishconnection.com).  I add some shrimp pellets, some Hikari, some
Misty Mountain pellets and some Wardley pellets.  When I'm working in the
flowerbeds or with the compost and come across worms I toss them into the
ponds as the fish love them.

Hi there ....  I was feeding my Koi and Goldfish Sho-Koi... then I was told
about KoiStuff.  This is a top, premium koi food .. comparable to Sho-Koi.
It is available online.  You can easily reach the page with:
http://www.koistuff.com/koistuff_food.htm   It is a part of Doc Johnson's
pages.  Just read the ingredients.  wow!... and it is much cheaper than
Sho-Koi.

I haven't seen it mentioned, but last year there was an article on Paste
Food in Koi USA.

I got some of this after I found out that supposedly the ingredient in
ShoKoi that simulates the immune system is Brewer's Yeast. So lately I've
been mixing my own version. Equal parts of paste food (which is a powder),
brewer yeast and wheat germ, then a tube or two of waterfleas from
Petsmart, a pinch of clay (suppose to aid a koi digestion) and juice from a
fresh orange. I add just enough orange juice to get the mixture into a
sticky ball then I roll pieces of it in brown rice flour in long snakes.
(Think play doo.) The rice flour keeps it from sticking to your hands.

To feed the gold fish inside I pinch off and make little BB to pea size
balls, for the koi I just pinch off from the rolled snake and toss in. The
goldfish inside love this stuff and some of the slower ones have learned
that I will hand feed them if they come to the top, as the stuff sinks. The
koi have yet to get use to sinking food, but when they find it they gobble
every piece up.  The possiblities are endless as to what you could puree
and add into this. Unfortunately it is time consuming to make, as one needs
to use up what one makes in a few days.

Another unfortunate is I have no idea what the ingredients are in the base
powder as they came in Japanese, so if someone knows, could you type it out
for me? ~ jan
