Treat the whole pond if possible with malachite green (buy it in quart
sizes). Otherwise the parasites will spead to other fish.

Say guys, we just made a giant leap from unidentified small white lumps, to parasites,
to dumping malachite green into the pond.
Machalite green can be used for fungus and for unicellular parasites. It also can burn
the gills and skin of the fish if overdosed or improperly diluted. Formalin 37% is a
better treatment for parasites, if we truely have parasites. Salt is the best and safest
treatment.
The treatment was a sucess but the patient died, could be applied to many of our attemps
at pond doctoring. Many chemicals we add to the pond have a detrimental effect on the
bio-filter causing increased stress, and possibly much more serious effect on the health
of the fish.
Every year, one of our club members, deceides her fish are acting "funny". She dumps
every pond remedy know to man, in her pond "just in case". The results are interesting
to say the least.
I think it is best to attempt to identify the problem and then take the least disruptive
treatment.
Good luck Frank

Stephen,
From what you describe, it sounds like fish pox. My koi have
had it, and then it dissappears. None of the goldfish in my pond have
ever had it. From what info I've seen over the past 5 years, fish or
carp pox is harmless. It seems to effect only selected individuals.
Either way, it appears to be harmless, and after a few months, usually
disappears. I only saw it again on 1  young koi I just bought this
season. It also seems to be perfectly healthy in every way.
Later,
Steve

What do the lumps look like? Do they have a smooth, waxy looking surface? How
large are they?

Carp pox often manifests itself on the fins, though it is more common to see
it on the head, and more usual for it to occur in the Spring.

If it is carp pox, it is in itself harmless, but may be an indicator that your
fish are more stressed than they might be.

If the lumps are tiny (the size of grains of salt), it may be ich. Use a
proprietory treatment.

Steve

It sounds like Ich or Fungus, but we need a better description. How
big are they? Are they thready?  In either case, your pet store will
have a cure.

Check out Tetra Press' The Manual of Fish Health or almost any Koi or
freshwater fish book. Most are filled with pictures to help you
identify the problem. http://www.koiusa.com/koi3.shtm is good too.l

Good Luck
