Who has the siphoning system that goes from pond to pond?

Post by R&B Thoma » Sun, 04 Feb 2001 05:09:22

Hi,
I remember last year reading about one of the regular contributors to
this newsgroup pond setup. She had several ponds at different levels and
was able to run a siphon from pond to pond to pond to her filter system.
I'd like to get some info on how she set it up. Anybody?

Thanks,
Barbara

Hi Barbara,

I bet it's Bonnie in NJ you're thinking of, though I do use siphon effect
to my filter and also have ponds at different levels. So here's my website
below. If you click on My Filter on the left it will take you to the filter
diagram. I have recently taken pictures, but yet to get them developed or a
write-up on how we easily start the siphon now days. No longer need the
shop vac to do it. ~ jan

Hi,
This is funny.  When I read the letter my thought was to say Barbara was
talking of your pond Jan.
My pond is set up so that the koi pond enters into the goldfish pond and is
then pumped to the filters.  The goldfish pond is filtered by a veggie filter
and the water is returned to the goldfish pond.  The other pump goes from the
goldfish pond to a prefilter then a bio-filter and then returned to the koi
pond.  It sounds mixed up and it is, but it has worked for me.

Could it be that Barbara was thinking of Bonnie Lee?

When you hook two ponds together with a line/siphon/pipe and not a
spillway or pump the ponds will have the same waterline, or be the
same level.   To run a pipe above the waterline I used a shop vac to
suck the air out of the line and get the water flow started.

Linking ponds isn't difficult, but most people use waterfalls or
spillways from the highest to the lowest and pump from the lowest back
to the highest.   I linked two of mine to keep from digging up a
formed liner when I added the latest pond.   The attached picture(not
to the group) is 4" plexiglass tube with pvc fittings.

Regards,

Hal

Don't worry Cindy, as soon as I get it on there, I'll be posting. This is
the device that Derek told me I had quite a technical name for: The sucky
uppy device. I'm hoping when I post it, he'll tell what I should call it.

Good and descriptive term, I like it - sucky uppy!  By adding device to it, you give
it class!
