Baby Koi Food

Hi,

Do I feed baby koi w/ regular goldfish flakes?  I crush these flakes into
tiny pieces but not sure if these flakes give them enough nutrients they
need.  Also, i grew some lotus from seeds but all of their tips seem to be
dried up but the stems look healthy and green.  Should i be concerned?
TIA,
michael

Michael,
Concerning your baby koi;  What are you calling baby? (how big are they?)  Koi
fry will eat flake food and be just fine.  There is no need to crush the
flakes, the fish like to nibble off the large pieces.  As the koi get to about
4 in long,  you should start feeding them a small pellet KOI or pond food.
When they get to be over 8 in, they will eat any size pellet you give them.
(as well as the roots of your lilies, the algae on the sides of the pond, the
insect life in your pond, etc...)

<<Do I feed baby koi w/ regular goldfish flakes? >>

Our baby koi are about 8 wks old now.
I just grabbed a few leaves from a plant in the pond after our koi spawned, and
put the leaves in an aquarium. In a few days we had babies.
We were told to start them on  brine shrimp cubes. You can break a small piece
off & smoosh it against the glass of the aquarium, those little guys gobble it
up.
After a few weeks you can crush up goldfish flakes, or what we do is just crush
some koi pellets.
 Good luck!
