Soaking Koi Food in Tomato Juice?

Post by David Moye » Fri, 24 Mar 2000 04:00:00

I've heard that soaking the floating Koi food sticks in tomato juice can provide extra vitamin c for
the Koi. Is this a safe thing to do, or would the tomato juice cloud the water. If any one has any
experience with this please let me know. I'm not sure how long to soak the food, and what type of
tomato juice to use.

there wouldnt be enough vit. C to help that way,
take powdered vit. C and mix w/ water then soak
the food.
best guess would be 1/2 t to qt. of water then
soak the food for 5-10 mins.

some people add vit C like that to the water directly.

Kent marine makes an excellent product "Zoe" freshwater which I've used
for about 6 months now, you can use it as a water supplement, which will
benefit the plants but not the fish directly, they don't take nutrients
from the water column, however, I soak all my foods in it from pellets to
brine shrimp overnight before feeding and I have seen beautiful results.
All the fish I have from pond stock to aquaria are vibrant. However,
should note hear I don't keep Koi or Goldfish but the literature I have
and looking tells me it would be just as beneficial.

Hi David, oranges are one of the best sources of vitamin C. I slice up an
orange or 2 and throw them in the pond. They eat it all and most of the rind
too. Lynne
