Hi Michael.  Yes, there is a very easy way to tell the difference
between males and females.

On the first ray of the Males pect***fins (I call them their hands
;)) there are these little white bumps or dots which will form.  These
little dots are called tubercules and not only are they on the first ray
of the pect***fins but they are also noticeable on the sides of the
gill plates.  The first ray of the pect***fins are also a little
thicker than on the female.  If you can't see these tubercules, take the
fish gently into your hands in the water and feel along the pect***
fins and along the sides of the gill plate with the tip of your finger
or gently with your nail.

The female, when viewed from above can be seen to be heavier on one side
of her body than on the other around her ***area.
