Great idea Jane! After a while I run out of things to teach Oscar, my 6 year
old CAG so I hope to get some ideas, too. I used to write things down, but
after about 3 years I stopped - at that point I was at 200 phrases/words. Some
he drops and doesn't say for a while and then learns new ones. I have found
that as time goes by, I spend less time actually trying to teach Oscar new
things to say, he just seems to pick up new things as he hears them. Here is a
list of the Oscar's current favorite things to say:

Hi
See ya
You're so cute!
Be right back - gotta' to the store
Mommy's gotta' go to work - bye-bye - I love you
Hurt! (said after biting me)
Whistles for each of my three dogs and knows them by name
Wanna' Go For a Walk?
Where're my shoes?
Let's eat
What's for dinner?
Oh Boy
Sit, stay - Good boy!
Come 'ere
Dirty, Dirty - clean it up - get sick
Cook? Choke! (he came out with this when my Mother was visiting. I said, Well I
should cook dinner. I have no idea how he came up with this, but it was funny)
Yo Chiro Taco Bell
Here's Lizard, .lizard, lizard (Taco Bell commercial)
Ba, Ba, Ba, Ba Ba The Joy of Cola! (Pepsi commercial)
Sound of modem
Porky! Get off the floor (Porky is our***atiel)
Bad for the bird!
Where are you?
Cops Theme (his own version but....)
Andy Griffith theme (whistle)
Wolf Whistle
Opera (again, his own version)
Crazy bird! Psycho!
Too cold
Hot
Thirsty?
Cheese
Peanut butter
outside bird calls (chickadee, sparrow, blue jay)
dog and cat fight

the list goes on and on......

Here's what Ryen says, or at least what I can think of off the top of my
head!  He's a 3 yr old CAG...

Words & Phrases:
Hello (various intonations including mimicking the other birds' versions)
Hi Ryen
How are you?
Lara?
I love you!
Up, up up up up up
Ryen, up!
Thank you!
Down
Mom! (and several other names that he doesn't say much anymore)
Hey bird!
Pretty bird
You're a good boy
You're a good parrot
You're my baaaaby, you're my baaaaby Ryen, you're my baaaaby boy
Hey parrot!
Bingo Bango!
Buddy
Hi Allie!  ALLLIEEE!  Allie Allie!
Hey Chip Chip!
Quaker!  Quaker Quaker Quaker!  Quaker parrot!
No!
Quit!
Don't!
Stop!
Shut up! (most of these angry ones he tells to Buddy, G2, when he screams,
though he'll also tell them to me when I do something he doesn't like!)
Go in the cage
Good morning
Good night
BOO!
Sit
Stay
Bad dog!
Goooood dog!  You're a good dog!
Here kitty kitty kitty!
What's a kitty kitty say?  Meow!
Want out!  You wanna come out?
Wanna bath
Want some
No fair! (still not sure where he learned that, it's not something I say!)
Sure
Okay
No problem
What?
C'mere!  C'mere, Ryen!
Awwwww!
And last, he tries to sing "I'm a Little Parrot" sung to the tune of "I'm a
Little Teapot", but he has no singing ability whatsoever!  Although he does
say one line well: Or else I'll SQUAWK!

Noises & Sound Effects:
MANY whistles, including wolf whistle and short snatches to a couple whistled
songs (X-Files theme, funeral march etc.), also all of the whistles that the
***atiels & other birds do.
MANY clicks... "tch tch tch", cluck cluck etc.
MANY kissy noises
Dog barking, puppy crying
Cat meowing
Rooster crowing
Phone ringing
Lovebird noises... conure noises... budgie noises... Amazon noises... lory
noises... Quaker noises... etc. etc.!
Pop can opening
Ice tinkling in glass
Pop pouring
Someone drinking & swallowing.... usually followed by a burp
Someone knocking on the door
Several big crashing noises (sometimes followed by an "ow!", and just once by
a "damnit!" which fortunately he hasn't repeated!)
Lots of different types of laughter
Lots of various flatulent and burping noises... he uses these as greeting
noises for anybody he likes!
Whispering (you can't tell what he's saying)
Lots of sirens (he just loves sirens!)

And I'm sure there's quite a few I'm forgetting!

Oops, forgot "do you wanna go outside?", and also his MANY computer noises....
the funniest are from the computer games!  Some of them are quite strange!  Also
printer noises, digital camera beeps... and there's still probably a bunch I'm
forgetting but I had to add those in :-)

A couple of years ago, I made the mistake of using my high-speed Dremel
drill not far from Oacar's cage. For several weeks after, his cage sounded
like a dentist's office.

Laughter...yes...and I have to say, it's kind of scary.

We are early risers so will most times leave Desmond covered until after we
have read the morning paper. Frequently, when it's getting to be about "wake
up time," Des will start to talk. He'll call our youngest son, call the dog,
practice various other words and phrases.

Lots of times, in between the words and phrases we can recognize, Desi will
mumble a bunch of "words" to himself and then crack up! I wish to goodness I
knew what he was laughing at...
