African Grey feathers

Please advise what can be done to improve feather condition of my pet
african grey, his wing feathers are not sleek or smooth but are rough
and jagged in appearance.  He is not a feather plucker.  He is only
caged at night for bedtime, about seven hours.  He has been to a 'bird'
vet and has been given a good clean bill of health.  He is between 15
and 20 years old.  Please help or direct to an appropriate site.
Thanks.  Ann & Junior

How many showers do you give him per week?

Hi Ann,
The vet visit was a good start. A couple of other things to consider is
whether he is hitting the each of is feathers on the inside of his cage as
he moves around. That can frey the edges. Do you give him frequent showers
or baths? This would encourage him to preen and "zip" those feather edges
back together.

Just a thought.  Joyce & Oscar.

We give our Macaw, Scarlet a shower once a week...and spray her down daily.
I even bought one of those mist sprayers{for when you are sun bathing} to
put over her when she's out side. She seems to really enjoy this!
