Exterminator -Ants vs CAG

Hi

I was wondering if any one has encountered pests i.e. carpenter ants, since
owning a Bird. We had a problem with carpenter ants about 8 years ago,
before we had our birds.  So we let the Exterminator spay in the house, as
well as around the foundation outside.  Well 8 years later the ants are
back,  but  we have a CAG and white bellied ciaque. I am hesitant to let the
exterminator spay in the house due to the birds. We could move then to a
relatives house for a week, but I'm not sure if it will be safe to bring
them back in.  Has anyone run into a similar situation, or know non toxic
methods to cap the ants.

thanks

Brendan

Hi Brendan,

I'd love to here of anyone who has managed to avoid ants, who live in
areas prone to them, if you own birds.  I clean every day, but it is
impossible to really keep up.

We have compromised.  We do have an Exterminator come in, but they don't
spray, and they don't leave Bait traps.  They actually inject bate into
cracks and crevices at the baseboards, and then they put down some kind
of deterrent around the perimeter of the  house.  Yes, we still have
some ants, but not nearly like we used to.  I see a couple every day,
but no streams, and I haven't seen a Carpenter ant in two years, Knock
on wood.  Hope this helps.

Best,

Liz

What about mice.  Do parrots attract them?  (I've heard they do)

hugh,
i like to clean up Louies mess everyday with a small wet vac.that can then
easily be dumped in trash an it also picks up poop.you can clean the vac every
now and then outside with waterhose a bucket and antibacterial cleaner. let dry
and go again.it is so convienient, and quick, after the morning feed and bath.

Hi Hugh,

We have been fortunate, even in our old farm house, most of our Mouse
problems have been in the ba***t, but I do understand that it can be
a concern for some people.  Of course having 5 cats does help, Ours
earn their keep inside.
