Mouse cages

Hi.
I've been wondering what kind of cages, tanks, etc people use for their
mice.  And which once are easiest to clean, etc.
I keep my mouse in S.A.M. plastic cage (the once they sell for
hamsters)...actually two of them, one with
outside wheel, water bottle, etc, the other one is tall and flat with
shelves for climbing.  They are connnected in three places to each other,
and I switch the tubes around every two weeks or so.  He seems to be
pretty happy, one of his favorite pasttimes is moving bedding from one
cage to another. :)
Drawbacks are that it takes me an hour to clean the cage even if I do it
once a week, plus during the summer I was kind of worried about
ventilation, since it doesn't seem too good in this cage.
Anyway, what else do people out there use.  And any ideas how to keep a
single mouse happy?  I tried introducing other mice but Mike definitely
didn't like the idea...I let him out in a ball almost every day and he
gets to go all over the place, but besides that I don't have that much
free time so he is mostly in the cage.  Any ideas for toys, etc?

I have Egerzegi in one of the cages they sell for hamsters "and other small
rodents"  he's got his wheel, and more than anything else he likes to climb all
over the sides and top of the cage.  he also has some cardboard tubes in the
cage that he likes to shred and hide in.  I'm a grad student and work 2 jobs so
I don't have much time to play with him or anything, and he, like your mouse,
spends most his time in his cage.  But he seems really happy--granted, this is
my first mouse, so I don't know what the norm for "happy" is, but, he seems
happy.  and when I'm in the room or have music or tv on he gets more active.

i have a really big aquarium, and that doesnt provide much fun for them (except
the little wheel) so i got a small wire hamster cage and put it inthere so they
climb all over it. just an idea.

Hanta lives in a glass aquarium as any plastic cage gets used as a chew toy. I
use Tinker Toys, Legos and Zaks to construct furniture, and change their shapes
whenever I clean her cage.

She doesn't seem to understand what a wheel is for, so I eventually replaced it
with a bunch of HabiTrail T-intersections snapped together randomly.

Its not that big an aquarium, but with all this junk available for climbing
around, every cubic inch of volume is available living space, and believe me,
she uses it all.

I put a small wheel in my mouse cage. There are eight mice in there, and all
but one uses it *constantly* Only one did at first, and then the rest
started catching on. It's hilarious to sit there and watch seven mice trying
to use one wheel at the same time--especially when three or four want to go
the opposite direction as the rest. Keeps them in great shape, too! They're
all sleek and healthy and bright-eyed.
