urgent, weird thing he done

my hamster just done a wierd thing, i was holding him, i have slowed
down on this maybe once every 2 or 3 weeks as he is a little over 1.5
years old, he was just a going fast as he could, and all of a sudden he
just stopped, and sat there for 30 seconds, so i put him in his cage and
he sit there for about another 30 seconds and he didn't even move a
muscle so i reached in to pet him and he didn't move so i left him alone
for a little while longer came back, he was still breathing, but he
wasn't sniffing, ya know, and i reached in to pet him again and he
jumped and crawled around annd went back in his playhouse, and he seems
to be fine, is this a normal behavior of fear, cause he wasn't close to
my***atiel just about 2 feet away, just enough to see each other.
e mail  me with comments, cause i dont' get to check this group often

If you mean your hamster sat in a state like.. a trance or deep contemplation,
your other pet probably doesn't have anything to do with it.   I don't know why
or what they are doing.
I only have seen this behavior in my male Syrian hamster.
-- not  in female Syrians or Russian dwarves.
Also,  it is not  anything to worry about .. certainly not affecting its
health,  in my observation.
I remember someone said that male Syrian hamsters  do this when
they are in heat, which occurs every several days.?

All of my hamsters have been female and I've seen a few
do this.  Its so wierd!  I wonder if anyone who studies
hamsters has figured out why they suddenly space out.

In the case of females, when they are in heat they are
easily "mesmerized".
