Our hammy, BB, recently developed 2 scabs on his skin.  We don't know what it
is.  Is it some sort of skin disease?  Has anyone experienced this with their
hammies?  He seems to be acting normal.  But we are really concerned about
him.
Thanks for any info.

Check to see if there are any sharp edges in his cage--hamsters can (and
will) chew on metal sometimes.  Also, watch carefully to see if he is
scratching at the area where the scabs are, because itching can be
evidence that "something hurts".  (Either a skin rash of some sort, or
something internal.)  But our vet student neighbor (4th year, almost a
"real" vet!) told us that basically, if a hamster is acting normal,
there's no need to be worried.

I'd have it checked out..  Just before one of my hampsters died a few
years ago, a bunch of scabs were forming on his belly..  No clue what
it was.
