Introducing Fern!

Well, after a suitable period of mourning our Alice, and after some
sporadic travel during which we felt it would be unfair to adopt a new
pet, we took the plunge today and adopted a new hammy at the shelter.
Christine was right that all of the shelter hams past were working on
finding us just the right ham.  My daughter just loved Fern from the
first. This was confirmed when Fern peed down the front of her shirt.
(Her brother peed on me!) Love at first whiz.

Fern is quite the little pistol.  She has been busy exploring since we
installed her in her new cage.  She is quite a climber and loves
taking the wheel for a spin while on the outside.  She didn't mind
being held at the shelter but we are giving her a few days to settle
in before we start any significant handling.  She is tricolored, with
most of the black flecked in her brown fur and in cheek flashes.

If you wonder where the name comes from, like Alice, it is a name from
children's literature.  Fern is named after Fern Arable, the girl in
C***te's Web.

Of course, we have pictures.  Enjoy.
