Looking for parts to a very old Habitrail

Post by Esyer.. » Sun, 08 Jan 2006 05:20:05

It's c. 1985 and either the Basic Set or the Deluxe Set. I'm looking
for pieces of the telescoping tube that led up to the SKY PET House,
and had a lift latch to put the tube at 3 different heights. Does
anyone know anything about this? Thank you!

I'd say try EBay if nothing else, more miscellaneous junk there than
anywhere else on the planet.  =)

It might help us to know where you are. The postage costs to USA from the UK
can be astronomical and maybe not worth the effort.

I've been trying ebay with no luck. I just can't imagine I'm the only
crazy person to store a hamster cage for 20 years! Someone somewhere
must have another one.  Yes, I am in the USA, so someone somewhere on
this side of the ocean must have another one, lol!

Its a shame not to be able to use an old favourite cage because of one part.
But a lot of plastic becomes brittle or porous after so many years. You may
find it may easily crack or be harder to keep safely clean.

I'm still able to get the original SuperPet tubes ( bigger diameter than the
one sold now and more suitable for syrians imo) new in boxes on ebay. Its
old stock obviously but packed in cardboard its been at least protected from
light damage.

If its part of this group they now do spares for some ranges.

This may be a stretch and not the most optimal solution but if you want
to continue using the old cage, you might take the tube to a plumbing
supply place.  They might have connectors and adapters for plastic pipe
that may solve the problem.  It likely won't be clear or super pretty
but it might get the job done.

Tried posting this earlier but for some reason it didn't get posted...

If all else fails, you might consider taking the tubes to a plumbing
supply place.  While it wouldn't be fancy, they very well might have
appropriate connectors for stuff like PVC pipe that might do the trick
for you.  Worth a shot if you still want to use the rest of the cage
pieces.  Good luck!

Thank you, this is a good idea! We had thought of getting PVC pipe.
Pretty doesn't matter so much as safe and keeping him IN the cage.
Right now it's rigged up with a piece of diaper wipes container we cut
to hold the tube (on the outside) as well as a bunch of masking tape!

Thank you, but no, I thought at first one of these companys bought part
of Habitrail, but it seems habitrail still exists although the current
cages don't resemble the old ones nearly as much as other companies new
cages do. Does that make sense? LOL

Can you be more specific? Which product are you lacking?

Take a look at the Habitrail product review links at my website.

necro - what I have is very similar to the current home, but probably
closer to what you call the circus on you site (that is obsolete) - The
tube going straight up to the solarium used to be 2 pieces, and the top
piece was adjustable. I am missing the bottom piece of tube that sat in
the hole and was a larger diameter, and a plastic ring that fit into
the groves on the top piece of tubing, called a lift latch.
Now I think it's just one tube that just sits in the top hole and goes
up?

oh, I also need a new ladder for the tree house.
It would be great if you could help! Thank you!
