Hi:

I'm afraid there is little anyone could do based upon that
information alone. But in any case, hamster illnesses are most treatable IF
caught quickly and treated by an EXPERIENCED veterinarian. Seeking the help
of a professional is absolutely always the best advice.

That said, I am wondering how old your hamster is. Sadly, our
friends do not live that long. In many cases hamster that have had full,
healthy lives will simply begin to "shut down". At that time they do become
immobile and cool to the touch.

If this appears to be an ill, young hamster, then the vet is where
you should go immediately. But if this appears to be a hamster in the
twilight of its life, you should keep him warm by providing lots of torn up
toilet paper. You should keep him well hydrated with a bit of grated apple
or carrot. You might even try kitten milk (sold in many grocery stores),
goat's milk, or Pedialyte, an infant hydration formula.

I think many others my offer food suggestions for convalescent
hamsters. I'm afraid you'll have to decide what the situation is with your
ham and act accordingly. An old ham that is experiencing his final days
needs lots of love and warmth, and good, easy-to-digest nutrition, but a
veterinarian, no matter how experienced, will be able to do little. A sick
ham should be treated by a professional as quickly as possible.

I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful in this case. Best of luck to
you and your pet.

Hi Sam,

Seems your hamster is in shock.
Does he seem to be in pain when touched? Is het still drinking and
eating?
Keep him warm and get to the vet ASAP ...

Regards,

Frits

Hi Sam,

Please keep us folks on the newsgroup informed about your hammie's
progress ...
BTW:
- is your male or female?
- what is your hammie's age?
Hamsters only live 2-2.5 years.

Give him some fresh food: carotts, broccoli and some pieces of bread in
addition to the normal food. It'll be a nice variation.

How is his/her poop? Still solid? Is he/she drinking/peeing enough?
It doesn't appear your hamster has any external signs of infection or
lump?

A vet who knows about rodents can prescribe proper medication and
antibiotics.

I hope all turns well.

CU,

Frits

Okay, He's 2 years old, I gave him some grated apples yesterday but he
seemed to back away from it.
He tries to lift his head to drink the water but seems low on energy just to
lift his head.
He is breathing rapidly sometimes.  I'll give him some bread as you
suggested.
I also put him in the kitchen where there is warmer air.
I thank you for your help on this matter.

It is very important that you take your hamster to see a Vet asap to
alleivate suffering and hopefully put him on the road to recovery.

Please don't think that because your hamster is two years old that he is
passed being cured by a Vet, this is not always the case.

Good luck..
