Cage cleaning

What chemicals are OK to use on a hamster cage to give it a really good
clean?  Don't want to use anything too harsh (for the hamsters not the
cage!) and I'm currently "hamster sitting" them for my brother and don't
know too much about this sort of thing.

I just found http://www.wikihow.com/Clean-out-a-Hamster-Cage so if
anyone has any comments that are not on there it would be appreciated.
The vegetable oil tip was quite good.

Hi steve,

I'm assuming you have a playball or somewhere for your little visitor to
play while you clean the cage??

A little mild washing up liquid (not dishwasher stuff of course - too
dangerous), or antibacterial handwash will do for the cage. Unscented is
best but as long as its not too strong smelling it will be OK. Rinse
thoroughly in fresh water and dry well with kitchen roll. If there is a lime
scale mark in the toilet area a little vinegar will remove it. Dab it on and
leave it for a few minutes if its bad then wash and rinse thoroughly. Don't
over clean the toilet area as he might get confused and start a new one.

Don,t forget to put his things back in the right place.

I hope this helps.

:o)
