Since I'm a first time hamster owner, I don't know whether or not I'm
allergic to hamsters. Well, I think I may have just found out. I've had my
hamster since December 26, 2007 and haven't had any problems................
until now, maybe. My hamster, Oreo has finally gotten used to me, so I've
been holding him more and more. Well, just this morning I woke up with a bit
of a sore throat and since I know I don't get sick that easily, I assumed it
was just allergies. (Plus I haven't been around any one who's been sick
lately.) But then I realized that this was the first time I'd ever had a
hamster so I thought I might be alergic to him. Oh, somebody please help me!
I can't be alergic to Oreo because then when it comes time to get a new
hamster, I might not be able to get one if I'm alergic! PLEASE HELP ME! :(
P.S. I know Oreo likes me now because 2 days ago, I was watching Oreo come
down from where he sleeps and when he got out of the tube, he jumped out of
the cage and landed right on my arm. Then he went up to my finger and began
nibbling it affectionally! LOL talk about wierd.

Angel!
Seems this Oreo guy stires up a lotta trouble all the time. I guess
it's just coz he's one of this so called Hamster Punksters. So here's
my advice: shave him! Once this pet got rid of his stinky fluffy fur
you should be out of trouble. That worked well in the past to many
hamster owners (including the ones from the sovjet union!) and I
myself have never heard that anybody had any problem, nor that I ever
had myself some, with a Skinhead Hamster. They're known to be very,
very handsome!
Feel free to post some nice photos of Oreo once he had transformed
into some better being (eg: from punk to skinhead) and if you're in
need of ANY further help (like, where to get those little cutie combat
boots and army trousers to outfit your lil hun), feel free to ask.
Take care.

I would never shave my hamster! Plus I just remembered that a week ago my mom
was sick with a sore throat so I probably am sick. (The good part about being
sick is that I don't have to go to school!YIPPE!)

Hello Angel,

I know for sure that I'm allergic to hamsters (doesn't stop me from
having 4 of them though :P).  It's more of a skin contact issue, I'm
fine if I touch them only with my hands, but if I forget to wash
afterwards and accidentally touch my face, I start itching away.  I have
the same reaction to rats.  Everyone is different, but my allergic
reactions from animals usually consist of itching, weepy eyes and
uncontrollable sneezing (cats).  The reaction is almost instanteous, so
I'm pretty sure what caused them.  It doesn't sound like you're allergic
to your hammy, in my opinion.

Thanks for yur help Anna! since I'm a first time owner I don't know if I'm
allergic or not. This time I know I wasn't allergic! I just have a cold lol.
But that doesn't mean that I'm not allergic. I need to keep an eye out for
any symtoms that could mean i'm allergic.
