If hamsters have diseases like wet tail, etc., could humans be affected by

No wet tail can not be passed to humans however the disease LCM
(lymphocytic choriomeningitis) can be passed from Hamsters to humans..the
symptoms are usually flu like in humans and affected animals often loss
weight, are more sleepy, move slowly their fur may become shaggy looking
and the have conjuctivitis at which time they are sencative to to
light...they usually recover in three to four weeks...DOC

When a woman is in her second period of pregnancy, the unborn child can get
eye- and braindamage from this LCM disease. This is however very rare, but
always be carefull when you are pregnant and never feed your hamster food
that is touched by wild rodents because they are the normal carriers of
this dissease.
