Sneezing Piggie??

Post by Jon Whitehous » Thu, 04 May 2000 04:00:00

I've noticed that one of my piggies is sneezing from time
to time. I have two piggies and the other one seems just
fine. I'm using Carefresh bedding in their home. I provide
them both with a well balanced diet of fruits/veggies, and
a few GP treats I get from the petstore. Any ideas on what
may be causing my little piggie to sneeze from time to time?
She isn't constantly sneezing, just doing it every once in
a while. I'd rather be safe than sorry :). Thanks for
any help

Sneezing Piggie??

The sneezing could be triggered by a few things. An allergy, the GP
burying its nose in its food (hay), dust, or an upper respitory
infection (which needs immediate attention. You have to nail the source
down pretty quick. Does your GP sneeze after any specific activity?

Do you hold your GP? If so hold your piggie up to your ear and see if
you hear any wheezing, or any other sounds. As you also stated sometimes
its better to be safe than sorry and a quick look by a vet can help
avoid a bad situation. Good luck.

As Mike pointed out, listen to their breath;
some sneezing is normal with dusty food, but
a respiratory infection is a very bad thing,
so listen carefully. The breathing sound of a healthy piggie
is very smooth, so you should be able to tell it,
esp. if you can tell an infection  at a human chest.

Good luck !
